Green real estate begins with a green real estate broker. I am EcoBroker Certified, meaning I have extra training in looking for green features in homes for my buyers, and marketing the green features of my seller's homes. Sometimes being green means working through environmental issues, not just chic finishes. I also have a green resource list of local vendors, related to real estate and otherwise, to make being green easy.
Green features in a home are not only environmentally responsible, but they add to your comfort level, and save you money too.
Here are some green features to look for in your new home:
*High R-value insulation
*Energy efficient appliances
*Vinyl clad windows w/ UV filter
*Programmable thermostat
*Reclaimed/Recycled/Sustainable Materials (bamboo, cypress, local)
*Low toxin finishes (such as low VOC paint, and touge oil instead of polyurithane, earth plaster)
*Solar panel system/ Passive solar/ Solar water heater
*Earth-friendly heating systems (such as geothermal, takless water heaters, radient in-floor, off peak electric units)
*Low-flow toilets, sinks, & showers
*Responsible landscaping, preferably xeriscaped, using native plants and grasses
There are subdivisions that are all solar, or all green built. There are homes off the grid, or constructed of straw bale. What ever your GREEN DREAM is, we can find it or help you take steps to build it.
