My Kind of Ski Town
Durango CO Is For Snow Lovers

Ski Season is in full swing in SW CO, and it has been a really good (170" so far) snow year.
We are winding our way through tight sidewalks with snow shoveled to our waists, and that is how we like it. For us this means not only fantastic skiing right now, but full rivers come spring, and a lower fire danger come summer.

I grew up in New England, we used to drive 4 hours to ski twice a year on a sheet of ice with pelting snow/rain (and we loved every minute of it). My parents gave all six of their kids this gift, and when I think about it now I am amazed. We have amazing memories and I still remember all of the names of my favorite runs at Okemo Mt. in Vermont. Fast forward a few decades, I am so blessed to live in SW CO, and Durango in particular. I have a 20 minute drive up the most beautiful valley, to ride on powdery runs in the sunshine, all season long. This is one of the top reasons we Webster's live here, although there is a pretty long list of year-round reasons. Lifestyle is everything, otherwise what are we doing it all for?!
With the dawn of working remotely, Durango area has become more attainable, and small mountain (ski) towns seem to be a widely shared dream. Durango has always been on the more expensive side as far as places to live, but our neighboring ski towns have become such that we are actually considered one of the most affordable ski resort towns in Colorado. There is something for everyone here; a good local base that carries on Durango's colorful, free-spirited past (I hope you'll embrace it and not try to change it, keep it funky transplants!), plenty of transplants, and second home owners. Mostly folks who grew up coming to visit the area, and now enjoy living at vacation.
We have our flagship, Purgatory Ski Resort, but we also have Ski Hesperus, a small family hill that offers night skiing, and just an hour and a half away we have Wolf Creek (my favorite) in Pagosa Springs. Not to mention, we are surrounded by backcountry skiing in our national forest, and cross country ski spots (the golf course of the winter). My kids like to hit Chapman Hill after school, right in town Durango, they do laps practicing their moguls and jumps.
Ski towns not only offer a coveted lifestyle, but they are solid investments, reach out to me and I can show you the numbers!
